MLB Dodgers agree to terms with South Korean infielder Kim
The World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to terms on a three-year deal worth $12.5 million with South Korean infielder Kim Hye-seong, the Major League Baseball club announced on Friday.
The 25-year-old second baseman is among the top hitters in the KBO League and was posted by the Kiwoom Heroes last month, starting a 30-day window to make a deal with Kim that includes release payments to the Korean club.
The Dodgers said they have options to retain Kim for the 2028 and 2029 campaigns.
Kim was seen by the Dodgers last March when they played an exhibition game against the Heroes before their season opener against San Diego in Seoul.
Over eight campaigns with the Heroes, left-handed batter Kim hit .304 and stole at least 20 bases over each of his past seven seasons. Last season, Kim batted .326 with 11 home runs and 30 stolen bases.
Kim is also a four-time winner of the KBO Golden Glove Award, given to the best player at his position, taking the trophy as a shortstop in 2021 and a second baseman the past three seasons.
The Dodgers are set to have Mookie Betts play shortstop and Gavin Lux as a second baseman next season.
